RISK ANALYSES

Risk is always present in any business situation, but especially so in collective bargaining with the attendant possibility of a strike or lockout.  Even though there is no generally accepted quantitative measure for risk measurement within the context of labor negotiations (unlike those associated with financial analysis), LCA can work in various risk measures into its analyses to assist the negotiator in choosing appropriate bargaining strategies and tactics.  Often, by simply prioritizing the relative risks of various economic proposals or solutions, coupled with their associated costs or savings, negotiators can see more clearly what the preferred course of bargaining should be.

We can help bargainers understand that attempting to get the utmost may not be worth either the marginal economic gain or the attendant risk.  Similarly, we can also show when it is absolutely necessary and prudent to strive to get the utmost as it is required to meet economic expectations at assumable levels of risk.
